Amplifier gig w/Viperchain

May 3, 2025

Viperchain have been making recent waves - thought I'd have a look. Also, first time at Amplifier

Taking Back Midnight were the first band I saw. Standard 4, chick on lead vocals, shredder on lead guitar. Like to get heavy, but it's lovely r'n'r when they play at 9.5 instead of 12. Finished with a cover - the only down moment - of Dirty Little Secret, but they rocked that, and I don't know it, so it could be like jayme's 'Have love will travel'. Research ToDo on the song. (Edit: not sure but i think it's too new to be cool.) Check if they're on Bandcamp. (Edit: not on bandcamp) Said to drummer: get on Bandcamp. Will see again.

The third came of the night were Viperchain. 5 piece with lead vocals and lead guitar plus rhythm, bass, tiny keys and drums. Both bands so far have awesome pounders. This has been a good rocking night, and the headline is still to show. They like their guitar solos, if they weren't so heavy, they'd be a Volcanics level band. Guitarist/vocals is good - and knows it. Will see again.

Low-key start. All of a sudden Cult of Humanity were on the stage. Too many covers, imho. Young rascals, green day, pink. (with lyrics made up from whole cloth), Wolfmother - so, essentially they're still a cover band. Lead guitar has talent, so does bass. F'd up the video of the single. New cam zoom blues... They have presence and could be good, once they break the cover band shackles. Would see again in a lineup to see how they evolve.

So, first gig at Amplifier. Not a bad venue - and it's in Perth! Will go again :-D
