At MoM's for POB
The bandlist are my notes. I thank myself that I did even that as I would not have remembered anyone otherwise. Watching the videos brought up mental notes I'd taken, so it won't be the worst review (i hope).
First band I saw were Dizzy Planet. Chick driven trio - chicks provide the powerhouse drums and bass, and a guy on voz/lead. I like the guitars, but love the drums. They get pounded! Lead could cut loose (on guitar, not animation - that was fine) a bit more imho. Good fun to watch. Will see again.
Elephant Orgy were next up. I've heard about this band a bit and have wanted to see them for a while. 'Sludge rock' it says on the tin, and that's a pretty apt description. Droning, so thick you have to wade through 'em guitars, heavy on the growl in the vox department, bass is very prevalent. Unfortunately the bass' guitar strap came loose mid song while videoing. I didn't realise till the helper came out, I thought it was just a theme or motif or something for the song. 🤣
A four-piece with chick on drums in the form of Broken Hymns were next. Wow @ the voice on lead vox. Distinctive and clear and soft on occasion. Then it's full throttle and as heavy as you like. Very much enjoyed the guitar. And then I got the camera out in time to record this astonishing, 9 ½ minute epic piece of music called Hummingbird. Imma go see them again on that alone.
Penultimate band were Outcome Variables. Instrumentals and prog rock leanings with plenty of guitar. Very nice. A bit niche, I might go looking on bandcamp coz I think I'll like them, but don't expect to see many gigs they're in. Will see again, but.
Last band of the night were Challenge Rejected. Multi-lead vox, a cross-dresser - for the song on video, at least - and heavy, power rock in the engine room. Good with the crowd, like a bit of slapstick and know how to enjoy themselves. Would see again.
