Clancy's for a recap night, sort of

Total mcT for Dune Cartel (duo). Didn't realise there were 5 bands till I checked video. Notes don't appear to have gotten better so far :-{

I missed Dune Cartel. It says (duo) after their name suggesting not all the band were playing. This is an interesting choice for an 'On the Rise' event. Are the rest of the band not on the rise? Also 'Dune Cartel'?, 'Sandbroker'?: you guys know the stuff is free and there's literally thousands of kilometres of beachloads of it, don't you? 😁

The night started (for me) with lovemenot. Last time I saw them (at Lynott's) my video skills were not great. I'm not entirely sure they are great now, but they are better. 😁 Love me not have definitely improved - confidence is up, band-ness is up, and vocals are stronger - needed with chick-on-vox. Have piqued my interest - will see again and pay proper review attention.

Navy June were third on the night. I swear I've gone to a Navy June set recently, but cannot find it - also the band themselves weren't immediately familiar. Anyhoo, impressive rock. Three chicks from four cover vox, bass and drums - lead g is the fourth. (NB: understated bass low key (heheheh) solo in the video around 3:10.) Could see myself adding this band to my 'new bands' list. Will see again.

Second-last band (after footage review) were Hello Stranger. Bass/vox chick (in pink Wellies!) is also regularly seen with some serious cam-gear in hand. I think I took a few more stills than usual for this reason - I should review them. I quite liked their set the first time I saw them (at the Indy, I think), they know how to jam and the dual vox setup works well. Not quite to my taste, I'd like them to be rockier, but that's strictly me. Very popular with the crowd. Good set, good music - would see again.

Charm were also there as I found out. 🤣 Surf rock, but if you don't know that the moment you look at them you haven't lived in a beach-centric community. I know nothing. Based on the video they're good, but I'd like them to unleash a bit. It felt like: we've got this song we think is nice, so we're playing it nicely. I say, let it get rough. They're a 4-piece - a frontline of guitar with drums powering from the back. Would see again - WA surf rock seems to naturally have psych rock undertones which intrigue.
