Clancy's - Saturday Live - till my battery ran out
Went in time for a meal - it's dinner, not a steak sandwich or kebab type place - and walked in as the first band started their second song. They started early, I wasn't late. So there.
Dreamline kicked off the gig. They're melodic rock - with a lead bass player π - and are the most multicultural Aussie band I've seen. Enjoyed the set - groovy tunes with heartfelt lyrics - but for mine I'd like a few more bpm. The music felt like it wanted to be played a bit faster. Recorded a song - not sure if it's called Blame Seth or Blane's Death, but that's old fogey ears for you. I don't remember the lighting being as red as the video. I may have to investigate new camera apps (or a new phone).

All My Nights were second on the bill. Love their singer's voice . Love their jams. I saw them previously and can see how their crowd work has improved. Took 1β videos. Unfortunately I didn't recognise the jam starting Patience (my favourite song) and started recording after the singing began. Set might've been a bit less rocking than last time (which may be coz it was short), but the jamming!, that voice! Will see again.

Got enough of patience that I'm going to put it up. (Mental note: next time, include the intro in the recording!). Again, what is with the red saturation?
The posted headline were Doll Eyes. They were third of five on the setlist. I'm not the only one confused about this. One of Clancy's barkeeps was concerned about going over licensing time when the band posted as second finished just on 11pm. Anyway, they started off with a cover and I, knowing nothing, thought about wandering off to write some notes somewhere while the cover band was playing. Also, it was a Robbie Williams song. Came back onboard when I realised that was the odd one (or two) out.
Lead singer is departing Doll Eyes and I think that raison d'Γͺtre for the set. Not knowing how close my phone was to losing its batteries, I seem to have recorded about 3 of their songs. First was their (so far only) single Far From Here. I think I missed a line or two.
Losing their lead will be a loss - she brings a lot of energy to the band and is a natural with crowds. They are kicking on with a replacement and it will be interesting to see how they evolve. Will see again, the music rocks and will be an interesting space to watch. She introduced 'Believin'(?) with a farewell.
Also I'm being stalked by a multi-band bassist. Having never seen Holly before 7 March this year, I've now been to three gigs in the space of eight days where she has been rockin'. Blush last Friday @ Mojo's, who then also stepped into the breech for Foothead last night (14/3), and this evening's gig. Saw mum again when she popped over and said hello.π This is tops, I mean I fully get parents having a look at what the kids (and their little friends) might be getting up to that they're all excited about, but active support and giving up weekend nights to watch? Onya Holly's mum! Lookout for Holly @ about 2min.
Fourth on the setlist were Strangers. Probably my favourite music of the night, but maybe second to All My Nights. Started taking a video that was looking real good - and after a minute and twenty seconds it stopped as the battery was down to under 5%. Oh noes! There's still a whole set to go. First time I have let battery run out on this phone since I got it.
Strangers are good ol' rock and roll and the band has charisma to go far. A bunch of fans came to see 'em but they picked up more on the night, methinks. Will see again. Would have more to say, but as their set finished and I went to the quiet area to write some notes I found that the 5% had disappeared and my phone was dead (actually it was probably playing dead so i'd have some reserve for emergencies - it does that). Half a video below:
Minnow.
Minnow were a great band to end a good night out. They wound down the tempo and volume a bit and kept the punters engaged - those that were staying to watch everyone on the night.
Just like the Strangers I'd have a bit more to say but don't because of the battery issue - no phone, no notes app. Minnow might be a tad slow for my taste, but would see at least once more in a line-up to make a better judgement. No video, no photos - and I think I'm getting better at this, lol. Mental note: always recharge the phone o/night from now on.
Side note: it was interesting to watch different bands' reactions to drum problems encountered through the night. There seemed to be some loose connections and a cymbal stand fell over at least once. Fun times.
