Clancy's Two-Stage Cornucopia!
I got there, and there was a no entry on the usual tix spot. Hmmm? Wandered out the back (hadn't done that before) to find an al fresco dining area which, after turning right, led to an outdoor stage/dancefloor. Off to the side of this area was the entrance to the regular stage/dancefloor. The night just got both more interesting, and possibly tricky. I have no setlist or band times. Who's on where - and when*?
I'm writing all this because there is next to nothing in my notes on the bands nd music. Again.
Caught the last song of Dogswamp (I wonder where in Perth they're from? π€£) on the interior stage. Literally had just enough time to turn on the camera as lead vox says: 'Thank you, we've been Dogswamp'. I like their rock. Will see again to checkout.
Next were The Foltines, playing outside. New to me, but I think I like 'em. Vox has a good rock voice, and appears to have Billy Jo Armstrong influences, drummer wears shades, they rock the stage when they're playing and there's 3 guitars. Could be more solos (could always be more solos), but it's rock and i like. Will see again.
Back indoors for Better Late. The cynic in me pondered whether they had written a love song yet. I nearly fell over when they announced they had! π Better Late are such fun to watch, and rock 'n' roll is the best way to channel away negative anger. The (very interactive) song on vid - Thank Fuck He Met Her - is a perfect example. Will see again.
Next were a band I've never heard of kicking off outside: Sofia and the Sweet Peas. This is quite apt. They are a soft rock/pop five-piece built on harmonies. That's a six string bass if I'm not mistaken. Not quite rock enough to grab me, but I'd happily watch in a lineup.
Back inside for The Cherries, who play folksy-twinged rock. They remind me of Kooklamu a bit. (How's that for recall?) Really wanna know where the name comes from; probably not going to ask. π€£ Interesting wordsmithery in the lyrics, the video'd song is quite well done. (The thinking person's 'Thank fuck he met her'?)
Free Aviary. So good. It feels like these guys are right on the brink of massivedom. I think I pressed the wrong buttons on my phone when I was recording, or ISO is way out or something. One of the videos is weird - but there's this solo in it, so it got in.
Interflow. It's fun when the band on stage plays a song you know. Was singing along to Leaving Without You like it had been on my playlist for the last six months π. It seems I liked the set so much I video'd three songs.
Massive, massive shout out to Clancy's. I don't know if this two-stage idea is going to be maintained, but I'll put my vote in to keep it going.
* It turns out my concerns about time clashes and choosing bands were for naught. The staggering of the acts so one was starting as the other was finishing was a master-stroke. Punters that come to see one band can sit in (relative) peace between bands (assuming coming for one means they might be here for a set or so before or after) and have a good friends' night out. Punters like me that are here for the whole gig get absolutely spoiled. Brilliant! Hopefully I've waxed lyrically enough about the event to cover the sparseness of notes about the bands that played. π³
@sweetman - love your work. Thank you very much. πΈπ€
