Devon Street, Scarborough
Half hour later than I wanted to be because Perth rocks, but it can't drive. Walked into the 1st band dismantling their gear. Sigh. mcT strikes again!
So, saw all of Hello Stranger and wow! I'll forgive them the cover because vocalist made it sound different enough and it was good - and I can't remember the name. Apart from that the show just rocked! Standard rock 4, with chick belter as dual lead and bass. Other lead vocals was also lead maybe r. guitar. Will see again. Could become a fan. There's a bit of Janis in that bassist. 😀 She also carries a decent camera rig. Am I commenting on photographic kit now? 😁 Actually, I think I've seen her taking pics before ... Edit: Yup, King Blue gig at Mojo's, Devon Street were there too.
Figurehead. - will be interesting to see this compared to my previous viewing.
Lead vocals is a performer. . He gets energy from the crowd and feeds it back in droves. Understated lead guitarist - would like to see him break out a bit more. Sax solo to end the set. Perth needs more sax. I have a feeling I've said this before. It's interesting coz I do not like too much sax. Very cohesive unit - it's almost as it they've been going for a decade 😁. Definitely like them. That "we all in it together" song is anthemic and much needed in the current 'everyone else's opinion is inflammatory' climate. I was singing along without even realising it. Will see again. (Edit: I see them again quite soon.)
Quick digression - it looks like Foothead's lead guitarist works at the Indy - she's on the bar tonight. Got some goss: the band may be becoming a trio. shhhhh.
Devon Street were there for the crowd and the crowd were there for them. "Benny" chants throughout the show. A great set, I caught some vid and enough drumposition footage to keep me going. More covers than usual, but a longer set than usual. They were on fire. Spoke to skins grandma, a lovely lady - and fiercely proud of her boy! I got video of 'Kites' but it's lame because I was moving around. They were so good, the punters demanded an encore. Last time I heard (and maybe helped chant) 'one more song' was Free Aviary's Caveat release. Lead vocals (should I start using vox to be trendy?) promised me music will be at the merch stand soon. 😁
