Everyone @ Clancy's

Second gig of a double-header weekend for me. Tonight's gig was headlined by the opening act at last night's soiree.

I got there in time for the first band! Only missed half of the first song.

Nood Harbour are good, they play hard and the lead singer/guitarist can swap out his guitar for a new one mid-song like nobody I've seen. Apparently (according to their bassist) equipment failure is a regular occurrence for them hence the proficiency. Good honest rock. Would see again.

Lefty* were second. The guitar warm-up was brutal! Working out the right amount of reverb sent the sound check public. In the end they settled on just above bone shaking. Perfect! Strange 'crackle, pop' noises coming from the pedals - I expected the magic smoke, but they seemed happy to work through it. OK, the music. Wow, I like! Lead vocals is a guitar shredder and has a bit of charisma. Watch this space. I took a video, I think it's OK. Could I be gettting better at this? Also, did mention brutal guitar?
*named after one of their earlier songs - I asked because they are all right-handed 😂

Outfront were next up. A lovely start - just bang! Here we go. Lol, that feeling when the whole crowd is singing along to a cover that you've never heard before. Probably bloody Fontaines. I like Outfront, but they didn't grab me like Lefty did.

Act I thought were headlining were penultimate - though that might be a thing; have the headline second last and then punters can go somewhere while there's still some night left. Anyway Flora Road are really good. There's one guy in the 4-piece set who is the most animated by orders of magnitude. Lead singer/keys is the driving force but as a whole they seem very cohesive. There's obvious passion and intelligence in the music and it's still really good rock 'n roll. Very likeable. I took video of their new song (as did the guitarist's dad :-). Not on socials yet, I said they should get on bandcamp.

Final band of the night were Free Aviary. I don't think I was right about penultimate bands. I think I'm going with dual headliners. Very good band, clever enough to introduce themselves. The rock is not as hard as a lot of acts I've seen, but rock and roll doesn't have to be non-stop, riff-drenched pub-rock-esque. I liked Flora's music better, but these guys worked the crowd best on the night. Really enjoyed listening, great band to finish a multi-set night. Video I took (I think it's the new single) isn't bad, either. Actually, turns out the vid was good enough for the band to put up on their youtube. Look what i did! :-D
