Glimmering Symmetrically
Walked in as band 1 were finishing up. Chose beer instead of quick pics. Oops. They were good too, if a tad brassy. Sax and stuff going on, it was cool. Musta been The Vicar, coz I've seen Glimmer (briefly) and it wasn't them
Anyhoo, Glimmer are second on the bill. Saw em (for about one song, took a chipmunk video, bought the t-shirt in forest green) previously at The Bird. Vox could use more volume and band need more oomph. Quite 'nice' music, but lead vox is very soft - even wispy in places (Ed: wispy? 😁). I kept waiting for the rock to kick in. Keys plays harmonica occasionally but needs to hold the mic closer. I could barely hear it and I was right in front. Chick on lead g is understated, and bass spent a chunk of the time facing the drummer. Would see again, when they're ready to step more in to the light. Speaking of, it's a very dark video - I don't think this is all my fault, but I'll wear it.
Think I've been wanting to see Symmetrical Dogs for a bit (a couple mcTs, I believe) - and I wasn't disappointed. They do stuff with the music - it's not just writing and playing a song that the punters will like, it's seeing how they can push it, where they can take the song. Some experimental stuff - somewhere between Bjork and real early Floyd (Ed: I said what?) - that possibly indicates more depth than a lot of what rocksperth hears. Not even close to 'art rock', but knows someone who knows someone who is (Ed: 🙂↔️). Will see again.
