Punk (circa 21c) Invasion!

Two bands from the east supported by our own Grunge Barbie

A brief moment of digression. Punk, to this ancient geezer, has always meant 'can't play - don't care', in-your-face music with violent undertones ("I wanna destroy the passerby / coz I wanna be anarchy"). I'm fine with everything but the last bit. *

Recently I've read something that says i got it wrong. The violent undertones aren't there per se, they are there as a function of punk - at the time - revolting against the 'peace, love and all that stuff' (that was capricious, sorry) that had come out of the 60s. Punk isn't violence - it's anti. So in today's ('scuse the French) 'fuck you!' world, punk is all about inclusion and tolerance. Still not sure why punk rockers today actually know how to play good music 🤣, but the biggest issue I had with the genre is not nearly so much of an issue after all ... over time.

*In WA this wasn't helped by the fact that back in the day punk essentially meant skinhead (and that crowd are violent per se).

Anyhoo, I have a para on Grunge Barbie, half a para on Delivery (at least I remembered to include the band name) and nothing on Those New South Whales. Video seems a bit scant, too. One file bigger than 200MB - and I think that's coz I captured two songs on it - and purple and red saturation everywhere. I think I need to adjust camera settings. Still, I went out, so here's the very scant deets:

Grunge Barbie - may have to look out for these chick rockers, only caught a song and an ending, but yes! and wow! Older skool punk sensibilities (hard, fast and in your face) backed with newer skool actual talent. Tending slightly toward the psych if I'm not mistaken. Shoulda got here earlier - still, they were the first band of the night so I didn't technically mcT anyone. 😁 Though, not being at the front where I usually am meant I only got video shorts - and due to the date there was a bit of costumery going on. The cat in the hat has a challenging headpiece to video past.

Next up is Delivery, first of two touring bands. A quick listen before the gig says they should be enjoyable, even if I've never heard of 'em. Punk rock - two chicks (on bass and rhythm), AND there's another two guitarists. I think I ended up liking Delivery more than TNSW

Third band were Those New South Whales. I don't remember a lot. I wrote less. Fast music - no '+10bpm' here - and short songs. Lead singer reminded me of Dean Ambrose (from pro wrestling).

Hopefully my notes get better in November.
