Jade Rich at The Bird
The gig: It was a very interesting evening. Show was billed for 8pm start, yet as at 9.15pm here had been no stage action. Also Ya Boy Chippee was billed as support, but I think he was DJ'ing for Chatters, so there were only two acts. All very odd.
Jade Rich was first up. I had earlier positioned myself quite close to the stage to get photos/vids, but a bunch of women decided they wanted to be closer and subsequently tried to fit four people in a space which might've fitted two. Looks like I'm going to be roving the show, not sitting in a preferred spot. Photos on the old app were ok, but not great. I felt photos on the new app should've been better, but then I saw the raw files that the camera created. Vids are just crap - I left autofocus on. But i digress. Review is below the first clip.
Jade Rich's music is high on emotional content, looks light on the surface, but is deeper if you look. Pop with bite, I'm calling it. Actually, no. Pop with sting. Stings are subtler than bites - and can do more damage. At the same time, her love songs are uplifting AF and make you want to think that whole crazy concept might exist - assuming you're one of those cynics who doesn't. 🤣 Apologies again for the terrible video.
Chatters was next up. I'm not really sure what to call this style; rapid-fire singing, valium rap, hip hop lite? I listened for a song (musical speech?) and a bit, but found I just wasn't getting it enough to make a fair, unbiased review. So, though it might've been more interesting to step out the back and have a yarn with the Rich crew, I took a trundle down to Lynott's to see what was happening there.
And what was happening there was Belgravia. These guys know how to have a good rockin' time, and the set at Lynott's was proof of the pudding. I got a song on video that looks really good (kudos to the sound guy), but for some reason the audio isn't syncing properly). Hopefully I can filter it to correct, but I have to get the blog up to date, so it will be part crap for a while. I am a month behind and I need to identify some stats, as it appears going to gigs is a somewhat competitive business on IG. 🤣
