Lounging about onna Friday night

It was PrettyPretty Isolated down Mellow Drive in Birdland (Isolated should be Isolators so 3/10)

Got here for the first band, even if only their last couple songs. Birdland are a standard trio (bass lead n drums), with lead taking on vox. A bit of teen angst with love's mysterious ways supported by a foundation of decent rock. Vocals are distinctive and the songwriting is musically catchy. Worth watching out for. Happy to see again, 'watch this space - with interest'. Messed up the video, missed a couple lyrics at the beginning, and then seem to have cut it off before the end. Pity, I think it would have been a good example piece.

Second band on the set is Mellow Drive. 5 piece, two chicks (vox/bass), nice guitar 'n' drum sounds in the in warm up (lol the only punter to be interested in soundcheck noises 😁). Bullet with butterfly wings cover to start, and Radiohead to finish (a good choice, 'Just', but still a cover), with originals apart from that. Guitarist is good, and can mix it up, fast shredding to soaring solos - less of the latter, unfortunately. Really cool moment when lead and rhythm sorta played their guitars with their arms wrapped round each other - like a couple doing the wraparound drinks thing. Newish looking band, can see them getting big. Have a fanbase already, courtesy of lead vox 😁. Happy to see again, they rock well.

Judging by setup, Prettypretty are up next. Look at me knowing bands 🤣. One of the best Prettypretty shows rocksperth has seen. They were on! Got video of a single (man have I got some homework to do). The band rock, no doubt, but something about tonight - maybe coz new music is coming, maybe coz the lounge has a few more punters than usual, may just be a night when they hit all the right points - turned it up a notch compared to previous gigs, imho. Spoke to lead vox, he's cool with my being critical (like who do I think I am?) about what I called a 'hands-in-pockets rock star'. I should probably shut up, but I'm likely to suggest a tambourine next time I'm watching them. Definitely happy to see again.

The Isolators closed off the night. Wow, these guys rock! They are a really good unit - 4 piece, standard setup, though I have to admit I expected lead to be bass, coz I'm prejudiced (Ed: tfw, three weeks later, you're transcribing the notes, and have no idea what this means, then you look at the video and feel shame). Lol, vox was needed as a human capo for one song intro. Decent job of introducing songs, plus the threat to keep playing the set over and over if we didn't like it was fun - we must have liked it, because it didn't happen. Got a half decent video then decided to copy them covering Bad Touch by the Bloodhound Gang - 'cept lead vox doesn't know all the lyrics and needed his phone to help out. Bass knows the words, but he ain't singing - till he has to step in. Riotous fun. Will see again.

It looks like Prettypretty can be added to bands that recognise me. Spoke to vox who mentioned seeing me before, then drummer came up and said 'hello', and 'are you rocksperth?' I might look for masks :-D Fan-effing-tastic night, Perth, you rock!
