Lynotts - mostly - on a sentimental Friday
Interesting gig night. Marketed as alt-rock, this is the only show where I haven't seen most bands, except I didn't want to take the trek to the Indy again (tonight esp) .
Clayhouse are fun to dance to and play good listenable rock. Doesn't grab you by the wherever and make you wanna go, kinda just says it would be a pretty cool idea, and maybe you should try it. Found myself dancing along while enjoying the lead, rhythm and bass combo, along with drums and vox. Vox tries different styles, raps out a bit, then seamlessly switches back to rock. All of a sudden they pull out a banger like 'For you'(?), complete with guitar solo at the end. (Unfortunately I only got IG vid of it.) Hard to go wrong with three guitars plus included solos, imho. π Happy to see again (even just to get a full version of that song, lol).
I very much like Clean Tones. Lead g knows how to solo, and is also a songwriter. Very impressed with vocal clarity - could understand all the lyrics. Mentioned song names, introduced band. Will see again, not sure I haven't before. I vaguely remember walking in as they were finishing up and wishing I'd been earlier (as usual) π
Finishing the night - to a much emptier lounge than I walked into - are Flora Road! Respect went up a bunch after tonight. What other band says: "We're doing a jam. Tell us what key to jam in." and then just rocks an instrumental for a good five plus minutes in Eβ? In fact it looks like both songvids i took are intrumentals. That's so cool! Spoke to lead g, good convo about the state of the world, the industry and evil tech. Who am I? π€£
But Lynott's goes to bed early, so after the conversation, I stroll down to my other Northbridge home, The Bird, to see Shorehaven finish off their set. Shorehaven are like Duran Duran. Really popular, catchy, groovy music - but a tad commercial and not nonchalant enough to be called 'cool'. Coz, you know, if you can, do, if you can't, be a snobby critic. Putting that aside, they are a refreshing upbeat band much more suited to beach parties and good times than break-ups and heartache. The guitarist knows what he's doing, the vocal mix up works and the tunes are very easy to listen to (and a little naughty - they should cover 'Afternoon Delight' - I may've said that). Actually, it's nice to hear happy rock. π
Another really good night. Perth, you rock πΈβ₯οΈ
