Lynott's for Fridays (with a quick Bird detour tonight)
Got here half way through band 2 Anya Lilley. What a voice! Not sure if the band is named after lead vocals - coz it's definitely her band - or that is their name (a la Alice Cooper). Introduced songs, and band members near the end of the set so kudos, but didn't say band name. Their rock sound might be a tad soft for me, but they know what to do with their guitars so probably would see again.
About yesterday. Have definitely seen this trio before (I should go back to where it says 'will see again' and change the first word to 'did'. Chick vox - with a quite distinctive voice in places - on bass, with guitar and drums to round out. Some very decent pounding on the cans in the back. Found myself singing along with the 'I Cry Myself to Sleep' song. I'm sure i've only heard it once. Will see (and have seen) again.
Slack Rapids are a 5 piece with keys. Play 90's inspired rock - think Beastie boys. Too many covers for mine, but drenched in guitar, so I like. Think I got a good vid (Ed: two, apparently). Would see again, coz guitar. Hopefully there'll be less covers next time. Jeez i'm a snob.
Floated into the Bird on the way home coz Lynott's finished early and I didn't feel like haunting my roundabout. Caught the last two and a half songs of Suburbia, the last band of the gig. Second last song - written 8 years ago - had a long guitar solo worth writing home about. Last song - 'one more song' - was a cover of Teenage Dirtbag that I got video (coz one more song) and the guitar I had just heard. Never seen a such a happy drummer. Massive smiles all the way through the set (that I saw, anyway). Will see again. (Ed: nope, won't see again. This was a farewell gig. A shame.)
