MoM, a grandmunchkin, and an ancient fogey

Jan. 17, 2026

My granddaughter is getting into music (she clever) so I took her to a young bands gig - at MoM's

The list - incoming! First Offence, Toy Crown, Burnt Pearl, The Dependants, Beefwood Ballet. We were there in time for the first band but the li'l one didn't quite have the stamina to go till 10.30 we left a short time before 7 with two or three more bands to come.

First Offence - Lovely guitar work, they begged to play the gig as they're big fans of MoM - they have another gig tonight so were first on the list. I think this is now the third time I've seen them in two weeks (Ed: about a month, actually) - once as a four piece, twice as a trio. Will see again. They seem to enjoy themselves.

Toy Crown - Singer is a performer - if he keeps the band together these guys have potential to wow them in the future. Will see again to get a better (non-festival 😁) look.

Burnt Pearl - Oh my, they must be all of 15! Drums and guitar both way too mature for their ages. Perth, you're on notice! Barebones rock, drums & vox plus lead g with hair. 😃 Raw, powerful, good. Will see again to watch growth and confidence and just enjoy the guitar.

The Dependants - Drummer is 11, (award winning) bassist is 15, and lead is all of a geriatric 17. Fark. This is the band the attracted the munchkin's most interest - I'm fairly sure because of the music. Quite professsional as a band, which is likely helpe by two of them being brothers. Will see again - will have to look out for, on account of the little one. 😆

Beefwood Ballet - "Take that, label. Try to make us have a stupid name and we'll make dick jokes!" 🤣 A couple covers: All Day and All of the Night (Kinks) and She Hates Me (Puddle of Mudd). Decent choices and they new, so they got bring the first bunch of punters somehow, so i'll allow it. 🤣 The rest of the set was good originals, they've just done a 9 track album. Looking like they could go mental if they keep it up. In Bandcamp, but their new stuff is not up yet. Outside of First Offence the only band I've seen in listings before tonight. Will see again. Possibly soon.
