New venue checkout - Kokomo's Livid Skate, Freo

Nov. 15, 2025

Checking out a new venue in Fremantle - Liquid Skate. Got there halfway through a full house show

Livid Skate is a tiny little place. The gig tonight had 8 bands - if they had all come down at the start of the gig, half of 'em would'nt've fitted in the joint to watch the show. It's that tiny. But massive appreciation to Kokomo's for bringing music to the masses. (I don't know how the Kokomo's|Livid Skate name works entirely, so use both terms interchangeably.)

I caught the end of Blame the Dog (I think, based on a t-shirt). I missed Dugite, The Fee, Reefeater and Just Jupiter and left just as Managold were starting. As mentioned I was suffering a splitting headache which was steadily getting worse and at one point my brain just said 'go time. now.' So I went.

Devon Street adapted to the venue well. They easily fit a quite large stage normally, but it felt like a leaner Devon Street were here than can usually be found at the Indy. Even so, they were still too big for the available lighting. Check the shadow guitarist, lol.

Watching AnimalX was an experience. Lead g/vox is an artist. Normally a three-piece, I understand lead's brother was called in tonight. I would try to keep him, there's some definite talent there, and he adds to the band.

The Meeck. I remember little from this set. (No notes at all on the night, but I don't feel bad. Tiny screen editing would not have been pleasant that night. I do remember they did the crowd interaction thing with 'Frequency'. Some of the punters tried to play along.

I don't know whether I should feel like a trooper for going out when I probably really shouldn't've, or like this is just another bad review night where I've had to remember details of a gig from a month ago based only on the videos and photos I took. Report card: extenuating circumstances, but still - could do better.
