Partytime! with Playlunch

JJJ Hottest 100 Kick Ons Party - and was it a party!

The Indian Ocean Hotel hosted the JJJ Hottest 100 Kick Ons party with Rosalie Chilvers, Ricky Neil Jr, Sun After Dusk, Sprinter and King Ibis supporting Playlunch. I think I saw everyone except Rosalie. I would have seen some of her set, but the silly hotel photographs everyone meaning the queue took 15 minutes to clear. That makes the second gig I've gone to with Rosalie Chilvers playing and I've missed her.

This may be a rather long entry. :-D

It was hot as on the dancefloor - I'm losing kgs tonight. Also, on the morning of the last time I was at the Indy I was single!

No mention of Sprinter or Playlunch in my notes! I think I decided to just party and enjoy myself. So much for 'a rather long entry'! At least I took photos

Sun after Dusk were the first band I got there for.

Mid-set the bass player became a cow.

Next up was Sprinter. Really liked them - you can tell by the lack of photos or video - and bought the album which runs at 45rpm (for quality, they say). Photos I did take are pretty bad, the best one is below:

Ricky Neil Jr. was next. The man believes in himself. If he can break free from his covers and mash-ups he could get huge. Rocked with the crowd nicely. The video I took shows this.

King Ibis were my non-headline band of the night. Lead singer was genuinely chuffed to see the crowd singing along with her songs. She seemed humbled to realise that she had influenced so many people. Yay rock and roll! Took video - almost sure the song is called 'Falling In Love Again'. :-D Bought a couple songs from bandcamp.

Final band I took footage of was the mighty Playlunch. How to describe them?
Bogan funk? Skip ska? Yobbo Big Band? It's a good trick. You think they're just a party band, but then on stage you realise they can play - despite all the ridiculousity! I'm sure there was a band after them, but I've no idea who they were. It could be Sprinter, which means I don't know who the band after Sun After Dusk were - unless it was Ricky Nelson Jr before a costume change. Didn't get full video of Hornbag, or No Hat, No Play. :-{ Vaguely remember getting thrown a Snack 'n' cheese pack (I think one of the band liked the old fart in the crowd!). Took lots of 10 second videos. Not my best archiving night, lol.

Here we go!

Was near the merch desk at end of gig, waiting for the last band - see i knew it - to finish the meet & greet and come over so I could buy vinyl, when I saw Annabel, the guitarist from Foothead! Actually went up to her and introduced myself (I can't believe it even as i'm typing it) and talked about what the band were going to be doing in 2025 (there might be vinyl!). It was a very pleasant conversation, but I think i broke it off a bit abruptly when the merch-desk, erm volunteer came over. Still falling over that i said hello in the first place.
