Pink Ladies @ The Bird (natch)
Chick rock party tonight. Blush, Shorehaven, Rosalie Chilvers, and I managed to mcT Liz-Zard and Siena Rebelo. So, I guess they have joined the list the Rosalie has finally left (gigs I've gone to where they played, but I missed 'em). I does tried. I still a bit surprised I didn't see any of them (Ed: later found I had the start time wrong).
Aside: I like The Bird's new stage layout - drums in the back LH corner, not the back edge. It's almost like they want someone standing on the sidebench to get good videos! Plus, the bass and drums can interact with more show, there's more room for the guitarists to move around a bit, you can get quite a different perspective depending on which side of the dance floor you're on. Cool idea, guys. Good job!
Blush! I have no notes - I was either movin 'n' groovin' or filming (read: enjoying myself too much to do critical thinking). They are really fun to watch and rock to. Stand-in lead g did a very good job. Will see again (and likely again 😄). Took a video of a song that looks to be singularly good!
Shorehaven love their party rock. They groove really well and the band are good together. Could use more guitar solos - yes, I know everyone could use more guitar solos, but lead g is definitely talented, and doesn't seem to cut sick with full throttle. Lead vox could possibly, maybe consider a tambourine. Would see again - catchy (naughty) songs and fun to watch.
Rosalie Chilvers - Heartfelt lyrics with in-your-face attitude, but it's covering pain, not being arrogant. Rocks well - it ain't soppy shit, but it's definitely all about the emotions. Best friends with Shorehaven lead - they shared high school (and high school's assholes) together. I could probably use less pink (ed: the camera also likes the idea of toning the pink down ever so slightly 🤣). A lot rockier than I was expecting, i think she channels the right emotional energy to extract good music from it.
It appears Sk8r Boi hits enough personal notes to make it worth bringing the chicks fronting the support bands on for a massive sing-along finale. Made for a great impromptu collab. Well done everyone!
So, I finally saw Rosalie Chilvers. Fourth time's a charm. Really good show, she introduces her songs which adds to resonance, also big plus for band intro. Big ups to venue, sound, and Sinead (legend). Really good night.
