Rockin' Metal* in the Lounge
9.25 arrival for 7.30 doors. Sigh, why do I even bother mentioning it? Saw Nylon Stroke, Electric State, Ammify. Good night.
So get here to see band 3 of 5 start. Fark, they have a heavy beat to kick off the set. The pew is throbbing under me from the earth shaking drums. LFG, I guess! 😁
Nylon Stroke, coz they announced themselves. Good lads 😃. I had to ask - meaning of the name? Lead vox/bass likes stockings. You draw the dots. They are a guitar solo band! I so happy! Bass/vox took his guitar for a walk into the crowd a couple times! Awesome stuff. Fun rocking band, got a video of one of their new songs, but worried about the focus. Will see again, though since first gig since December '24, they might be a bit sporadic.
Got sound guy to turn down the red, should'a seen the other photo guy zip back to position (he had given up).
Band 2 (or 4, meh). Electric State - wall of sound, V. pub rock, V. loud and imho vox should move his mouth away from the mic. Good, fun band - lead shared vox with crowd members, not all of whom were from other bands - but I don't know if they are my thing. The crowd loved 'em, so it's probably just me. Might see again, but mainly to check if first thoughts are incorrect or not.
Between Electric State and the final set, a punter watching the show from near the front walked over to me - I thought she was going to ask about my phone/cam as it has got some attention, but just wanted to know which band I was there for, and then introduced herself as the one and only Tam from the Rockin' Metal (or Rock 'n' Metal, I really should look that up) show. She lauded Ammify and mentioned them and Bloodwood as her favourite bands atm. I put in a mention for Chasing Jayme and also suggested Datura4 as being worth a listen. Datura4? check, but Jayme was new - I hope they have a listen. This gig watching business is fun!
Ammify. The crew at the Rockin' Metal show are right. These guys are fkn awesome. Dual lead guitar (or lead + rhythm-p/t time lead, I dunno): guy in a hood, chick with braids the stuff of fantasies. Lead vox on keytar is emo/goth. Drummer in W. Capper shorts with a nacho libre coat and a bass guitarist looking so stereotypically band-normal that he too manages to be a character, what a fucking night! Will see again. Did I mention dual lead guitar?
