Smokin' Salmon and Birchall

Kim Salmon's Smoked Salmon w/support from Salmon guitarist Claire Birchall

Saw Kim Salmon with support from Claire Birchall (who's in the band) at Lyric's Underground in Maylands. Rocking good night!

Lyric's is a PITA to find, but is worth it when you get there. I think Seasonal Brewing have a venue in the not-underground bit. My car-domme doesn't know the street so I was guessing - but I still made before the first act started. Yay me!

Claire Birchall was up first, and she is amazing. Powerful, real voice and a layered soundscape that was at times bleak and others completely uplifting. She was playing her new album The Haunting - a suitably titled, ethereal, synth-guitar driven emotional opus. Somewhat experimental, moody and quite gothic. I really like it. Trigger is the single, and Turn Me Over is an interesting little number.

Haunting Claire Birchell

After playing her solo set, Claire joined Smoked Salmon on guitar and played the main gig. Kim is incredibly talented and the band are really on-form. The single, 'How did they ever manage?' is an instant crowd favourite - we like our cynical music - and the band were having a really good time.
