Valentine's with Free Aviary

Feb. 14, 2026

It's a day for lovers - and lovers of music - plus it's a while since I saw the mighty Aviary

Got there in time for band 2's last song. They were Outfront, so I still havent seen Outfront. Oh well. Pretty sure CNTR were first (Ed: yep) so I missed them too.

Birdland, brothers 3 (Ed: brothers? you don't read hashtags do you? Triplets) and young. Also bloody good. They look like a junior high band. They sound like they've been around for a decade. It obviously helps that they know each other. The lyrics are poignant and mature, the music has subtle, sleeper riffs that you don't notice till you find yourself humming them while driving home, and they can even break out keys when needed. I could suggest my usual +10bpm enhancement, but apart from that it's just watch as they grow. Will see again.

Took two videos - NFG, both out of focus

Free Aviary - I think - are set to go large. They have it all, multiple vocalists, great guitar, bass is just so on point, the whole rhythm section rocks hard and tight, everyone loves their songs - the whole crowd bouncing while singing along is just great to watch. Gotta convince 'em to get on Bandcamp. (Ed: mission accomplished!). Happy to see again.

No video from tonight's escapades. Between me getting settings just all wrong and the northern policy of saturating the stage with colour nothing is worth showing - certainly not uploading to YT. Maybe if i remember to look at a manual during the week instead of half an hour before the first set starts.
