Watch you Blush, err bleed
Have known where I was going to be on October 4 for about a month now. Hard to believe it's a debut single, Blush've come a really long way in a very short time, and don't look like stopping any time soon!
Saw the end of Symmetrical Dogs. The name rocks by itself. Technical difficulties prevented any video, between my camera settings and the lead guitar's 'g' string ( the most important one, apparently), I only managed one still - it's ok, if you don't view at 100% and don't need to know what the drummer looks like. 🤣 SD are a trio with chick on vox (and crowd work!) and look to have a bit of stage presence. Oh, and she screams! Didn't catch enough to review decently, but saw enough to know i'll see again.
Vacate Palace can rock in any style. Three guitars, 2 part-time keyboards, 'shredding fast' then just 'rocking fast'. One guitar dropped shirt mid way through the set. Drummer stepped into dual lead vox for a second. Nothing too extreme, but edgy enough if you don't want bland MOR rock. Have a fanbase which might have been bigger before ig suspension. Would see again. They almost meet screamy guitar requirements, and they mix it up enough that they're worth learning about. Good fun to watch!
No notes for Rapid. This is a surprise, I've wanted to see them again for a bit, I believe. I have a memory of liking their guitar work at a set I half saw. Band is a guitars + drummer 4-piece combo. You can't really go wrong with that. 😁 They can make it scream and I reckon they'd make a great driving playlist. Rock and roll.
Blush took stage for the night's finale (or was it ...?). Reunited with their very sexily clad lead guitarist (should'a auctioned that shirt, imho 😁), Blush were 🔥🔥🔥! Featured by relentlessy good drums from the back powering it all, rhythm & bass rocking together while lead was soloing, and a strong performance from lead vox - gaining vocal confidence methinks. The songs all landed, the crowd were feeling the love - and feeding it back in spades. The atmosphere! Mojo's always has the coolest vibe and the night was like a long, happy party. Took lots of video - some of it's OK 😄.
(Hi Holly's mum and dad - very pleased to meet you and say hello again! 👋)
And it turned into a surprise party! Just as the 'one more song' chants had begun, following the announced 'our last song' we got the news that Fingers were coming in to do a late night mini-set - and the crowd went wild! The old fart taking notes has never heard of Fingers, but I'm pretty sure he was the only one. Swim cap wearing, possibly Australian, possibly American (where, please, is Illinois, Mississippi?), and musically very clever (think a '20s version of TISM). They know how to take the piss - one of their tunes is about having a crush on your primary school teacher, another is called 'Ladyboy' - but designed to provoke? - nahh, just having fun! Fingers did a couple songs and finished the night (early morning by that stage) off supporting the Blush! party very nicely.
Ace night (I'm trying to stop using 'awesome' all the time). Cool venue, great crowd, and killer music. Thank you Blush! and Mojo's..
