Two gigs - eight bands - one happy but confused mcalex

Town Bike were at the Bird. Chasing Jayme at Lynott's. I missed out on The Floors. I think I missed a set at the Bird due to mcT. I don't know. It was one cray-cray night.

The Bird - When I kick off my music career (chortle), I will be deriving inspiration from Town Bike. I've seen video of this band when the lead guitarist was still hunt & pecking his chords, playing with a broken string, (successfully) staring down anyone that might have thought it ridiculous. Since then the duo appears to have become a three-piece and there is huge playing improvement - and he's wearing trousers. Even the attitude has mellowed (slightly). We got a 'be nice to each other' dedication at the close of set - followed up with 'See ya cunts'.

Anyhoo, the music is hard, fast and energetic. Lyrics manage to be a highlight and gutter trash at the same time. There are some erudite philosophical understandings wrapped up in distinctly ocker street slang. I got a video that's not half bad. The dedication to James Baker was a nice, respectful touch.

K & T were after Town Bike. It was mainly K from what I saw. Deeply moving lyrics on an electric guitar - almost being played like it was an acoustic. Quite interested and I think I would have enjoyed it on a regular single-gig night, but I only stayed for a song and a half before heading down to gig #2.

Lynott's - St Tragedy were the first band I saw at Lynott's. Good ol' rock 'n' roll, with some decent guitar work and an animated bassist. The drummer sings! I think I got a decent video. Saw the full set, but left once as soon as it finished. Will see again. Missed Uranium Dog.

The Bird - Walked in just as Australian Critters had started. This is one of the wackier bands I have heard. The chicken mini-set i'm calling suburban avant-garde. Hopefully someone will tell me that makes no sense, in which case I've nailed it. 'Playing with my hair like it was spaghetti': Lyrics I bet 10CC wish they had thought of. I took a video of a song about cheese. They appear to be growing on me. Would see again.

Lynott's - Back to Lynott's for Chasing Jayme's set. Saw these guys a couple weeks back after missing them at least twice (mcT). Instafan! Tonight's show was just as good. Guitar all the way (obvs) and good songs to back it up. Have Love, Will Travel single is on the CD I bought. Got video of crowd favourite: 'Follow You', but a bit out of focus - smoke machine was on high and the mixer dude had the red turned all the way up on the lights (until I finally went to his desk and asked if it was intentional - lights were a much calmer blue after that!).

Stayed at Lynott's for the final set by Tritus. I've seen them at a Freo gig I went to last year. This venue suited them better, I think. They rock, but are still coming away from cover band status. Ran out of set before they ran out of time so called for covers - some lark called out 'Freebird' :-D - but everyone knew they were looking for Ozzie's Crazy Train. Finished with Toto standard Hold the Line, a la the Full Send gig mentioned above.

So, 5 and half bands out of 8. Will definitely see K and or T again, to get a proper impression. Will probably also have to look into the other 2 bands I missed. Oh, what a night.
